Analysis of Russ - Pull The Trigger

Song title, Pull the Trigger. The idea of ‘Pull the trigger’ gives the impression of danger and the death of someone. The music video initiates with the artist, Russ, laying on the floor. This immediately gives the impression that the artist, in the music video, has been shot or injured. The bright lighting and the location of an empty field gives the idea that Russ is in a dream. The woman in the scene could be interpreted as a danger, her presence in the music video gives the impression that she is a danger to Russ and possibly caused him to be in the predicament he is in right now. This is further supported by the lyrics when a female’s voice says ‘Maybe you should pull the f’ing trigger’ and it shows the same woman from earlier on. From that moment on when the beat drops, it dramatically changes from the bright scene to a darker scene. The dramatic change in scenes and locations imply that Russ was within a dream and had just come to realisation. In addition to this it could also be said that he was in a temporary coma due to him possibly being shot, hence the song title ‘Pull the trigger’. The video carries on to show what seems to be flashbacks prior to him being shot, these flashbacks are used to give the audience of a possible idea for the reason as to why he got shot. The idea of danger is continously seen throughout the music video, this is done through the display of guns throughout the video. Guns and the female actor are used to display the sense of danger in the video, it could be interpreted that his desire for lust is a cause for him getting shot. in addition to this, the flashbacks reveal his involvement in what can be assumed to be illegl actvities. These factors all come into play to display the reason why he wakes up in the condition we see him in. The concept of pulling the trigger can be taken into account as a sign of betrayal, this is shown nearing the end when the girl he was with appears next to the man who's trying to kill Russ.
